This series is about the style, presence, and culture of my mom’s side of the family. There is so much rich history that I don’t know of, so many untold stories, unknown faces, and people that I have never met and yet to meet. I decided to create this series of drawings to, in some way, get to know them better, to understand the past, so I can better know the present. The absence of the eyes in the subjects of these drawings matches the absence of connection I don’t have with these members of my family. During this process of creating this series I hope to find connection, uncover sacred moments and memories, and have more knowledge of what I didn’t know before. Here’s to discovering a rich history of the Covington Family line. It is an ongoing series that has yet to be complete.
